They Danced Their Shoes Off

On Tuesday campus and community members participated in the first ever Dance Your Shoes Off at University of Mount Olive on the Kemp Commons in front of Rodgers Chapel.  According to Campus Chaplain Carla Williamson, the purpose of the event was to glorify God, to remind people of Christ’s work on the cross, and to collect shoes for those in need.   Participants wore brightly colored clothes and a pair of new or gently worn shoes that they donated to Helping Hands Ministry in Mount Olive after participating in a choreographed dance.  Leigh Williams of the Arts Company in Faison led the dance.  There were 233 pairs of shoes collected, which far exceeded the original goal of 50 pairs of shoes.

“We are just thrilled that this event was so well received,” said Williamson.  “The event  brought our community together to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ during this season of Easter.”
