University of Mount Olive Choir to Perform Spring Concert
MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive Concert Choir will present its annual spring concert at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 at the First Baptist Church located on 300 North Chestnut Street in Mount Olive.
The Choir will perform John Rutter’s Requiem consisting of seven movements including Agnus Dei, The Lord is my Shepherd, and Pie Jesu. The Requiem will be performed in loving memory of the previous organist, Mr. Paul Cunningham, who passed away in March 2010.
“John Rutter’s Requiem is an exquisite work with lyrical melodies and beautiful, sometimes haunting harmonies,” said Dr. Melanie Crump, Director of the University of Mount Olive Concert Choir. “His use of word-painting highlights his natural ability to feature the text in a dramatic, yet stirring way. Those in attendance will be moved by the work’s message through Rutter’s creation.”
The performance is free and the public is invited to attend. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information about the concert, contact Dr. Crump at 919-658- 2502.
