UMO Launches New Website

MOUNT OLIVE-The University of Mount Olive launched its new website www.umo.edu on Tuesday afternoon, October 29. The site features a fresh and modern home page, user-centric content, and intuitive, mobile-friendly navigation.
The decision to create a new website came about as UMO continues to build on its reputation of becoming a comprehensive Christian university. “We want to make sure that every prospective student, regardless of their path of study or mode of educational delivery, can easily find the information they need to solidify their decision to attend the University of Mount Olive,” said Marketing Director Jennifer Merritt. “We also want the website to be reflective of UMO’s position in 21st Century higher education.”
According to Merritt the new website will be a much more modern take on how people expect websites to work.
“When building a website, it is so important to think about a strong student-centered experience and rely on analytics to help make informed decisions,” she said. “The site must effectively tell the story of our brand, our covenant, and our mission. By improving the site’s responsiveness and usability, UMO is addressing today’s student needs by providing a tailored online experience for all types of students.”
With the expectations that many people view the website with mobile devices, the University was strategic in designing a site that everyone could easily access from their phone or tablet from any browser. In addition to being mobile friendly, the site is also compliant with federal requirements such as the accessibility standards in the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The website revamp started in the fall of 2018. The first part of the project was focused on design, followed by phase two which was navigation and content creation. The navigational structure was built to better serve users. New design features streamline content, such as the use of accordions that allow content to be expanded and contracted. For example, on the home page different types of students can select what type of program and mode of delivery they will need. Viewers will also see icons throughout the website to help them visually identify content.
“In addition to creating a seamless user experience, the site highlights the more than 100 majors, minors, and concentrations available to prospective to UMO students,” Merritt concluded.
The University of Mount Olive is a private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition with defining Christian values. The University, sponsored by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists, has education service centers in Mount Olive, New Bern, Wilmington, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Research Triangle Park, Washington, Jacksonville, and online.
