University of Mount Olive at Washington to Celebrate 10 Years
WASHINGTON – The University of Mount Olive at Washington, located at 4525 US Hwy 264 West in Washington, is celebrating 10 years of serving the educational needs of Beaufort, Pitt and surrounding counties. The milestone will be marked with a celebration on Thursday, November 5, from 4 to 6:30 PM and will include light refreshments, music, and door prizes. The public is invited to attend this free event.
Below are a few interesting facts about the University of Mount Olive at Washington:
- Since opening its doors in 2005, UMO at Washington has experienced significant growth, having graduated nearly 800 students in the past 10 years.
- By stepping outside of the traditional confines of higher education, the University of Mount Olive has become one of the most unique and fastest growing higher education institutions in North Carolina. This year alone, approximately 300 students at UMO at Washington will be considered non-traditional. Those students, with a median age of 31, will not only be seeking a college education, but also balancing full-time jobs and family responsibilities.
- UMO offers one-night-a-week baccalaureate degree programs for adult students. Bachelor degree options include accounting, business management, criminal justice and criminology, early childhood education, healthcare management, human resource management, leadership, religious studies and management information systems. An associate degree in general studies is also available
- The liberal arts education that is the basis for the academic programs at the University of Mount Olive College at Washington provide a solid foundation for a lifetime of opportunities, enabling students to build careers and adapt to the ever-changing global marketplace.
- The average class size at UMO at Washington is under 25 and is taught by professors who are dedicated to undergraduate teaching, not research, so every student gets personal attention.
- The University of Mount Olive at Washington is also an approved CLEP and Dantes Testing Center, where students or members of the community can earn college credits by passing computer-based exams in many different subject areas.
